October Readings@Seksan (Stickyish)

I've sorted out the lineup for Readings quite early this month because I will be off to Bali next week.

And it's great news all the way.

We have three Malaysian authors who will also be doing us proud at the Ubud Readers and Writers Festival : Preeta Samarasan, Chiew-Siah Tei, and crime writer Shamini Flint.

We have the launch of the Poetry Underground collective's first anthology of poetry Voices. (About which more later.)

I've been trying to get Australian author and aid-worker Lansell Taudevin for Readings for quite a while now, but the timing's always been wrong. This month I've suceeded!

And we've got singer-songwriter Reza Salleh to provide the music (just go have a listen to his songs on Myspace!). Reza also managed to win last year's Ubud poetry slam against the professionals - despite not being a poet himself (he says!).

I have some lovely new books to give away in a lucky draw. (More about these later too.) And there will be some books on sale.

Admission free and everyone very welcome. Please pass on the invitation to anyone else you think might be interested.

Hi Sharon. would love to come, but was wondering, can i bring my 5 year old daughter who loves sharmini flint's jungle blues or will it be a bad idea?

have always wanted to attend one of the readings but not been able to so far - so have no clue how long it goes on for or whether having a chatty 5 year old is likely to irritate some guest...

sri - bring your daughter, she's ok provided she doesn't actually make a noise during readings and distract the readers. it's quite a big space and there is room to move her away if she gets chatty and there's no prob sneaking out either if you need to, as folks come and go all the time.

bring some books for her and some drawing implements and she will probably be quite happy.

i tend to beleive that when kids enter an adult situation and are treated as responsible beings, they rise to the occasion.we usually have animah's little daughter sarah there, but she is super well-behaved.

there may be a pretty big crowd at this event though as i've already got as lot of folks confirmed on facebook.

I'll be coming and will bring along my darling camera as well. I hope it's OK to take pictures (I promise I won't disturb the reading)...
