According to the book, there is a great number of babies abandoned in the coin locker and dead, but the book is a story about the two babies that being rescued, and how the experience become a trauma of their life and make them become what they are. It's a heartbreaking story, but as you probably know, the book also contain sex, drug, loneliness which is the main theme of most of his work. Admittedly, it does give one a certain sense of awareness. What I found surreal was the individuals who ran BB for sake of the ruling State rather than themselves.
