Yes, all you out there, please do come and cheer me - and others - on. Dina and I are in utter trepidation over how we are going to project our voices without the help of technology. No mikes! Help, any advice?
(I'm thinking to get heavily sloshed before my turn.)
I was laughing because just got an e-mail from Dina saying the same thing! Just think of it as practice for when you are world famous authors, 'cos then you will have to do it all the time. Bookslam it like your hero Toby Litt!
If you get to 67 a bit earlier you could have a practice ... (I will come earlier too if so.) Or you could get a big mouthed friend to read it for you. Nizam Zakaria does that ...
ooooppsss ... not that Nizam's friends are big-mouths ... just theatrically inclined and confident ...
Been following your blog for a couple of weeks now and it has been delightful Sharon. Gave me an updated on KL's 'literary ambience'. I would love to join in these readings when I am in town next and appreciate the info. you put up in your blog.
I do wonder however- are readings on/from non-English authors i.e translations from Spanish,Portuguese and French for instance encouraged and much appreciated in these readings? Appreciate info from anyone here.
sharon!!! i will die! i hate crowds, public audiences, i am terrified. i begged naa to read but he has a meeting. oh god. what do i read?
can you read my stories? :D
leonnnnnnnnnn. we hold each other's hands ok?
Hi kakibookoo - I think translations from other languages should be acceptable! If you are a writer who'd like to particiapate in the readings, do contact Bernice directly: hp: 012 323 0929.
dz - crowds only if you are very lucky. (Actually you have so many fans we may have to get the riot-control police in). I could read for you because I'm a big loud-voiced exhibitionist ... but I know that you are the one everyone wants to see and hear ...
Read a bit of the "novel-in progress" lah ...
Sharon, I definitely have to go there earlier, as you suggest, before 3 or after 2: have to do some practise in front of empty seats first.
Dina's suggestion about getting someone else to read is something to consider, or hold each other's hands, for support - and possibly read each other's works in unison, like a chorus (ha ha!).
Sharon, your friend who read Brokeback Mountain reads like a dream! He should attend this reading (and read our works).
Doesn't Bernice believe in mikes? Some of us have such little voices! I have to say that in the last reading I couldn't catch what most of ther writers were reading - except you - you put on a one-woman act!
Yep, Jaeson's a brilliant reader ...
Give Bernice a call and see if there is any way of getting a mike (although it may be too late to organise now)... Seksen's place is definitely a little noiser than Darling Muse was since it is more open.
