Bainbridge at Seventy

"Why do I write? It is something that life forces you to do. If you had been very happy, perhaps you wouldn't have bothered."
Beryl Bainbridge interviewed in the Guardian.

My post about talking to Bainbridge here.

I still remember vividly the live conference we attended with Dame Bainbridge in BC. At first I thought she would be there in person herself. I wanted to bring all her books for her to autograph, and I remember even asking you whether formal or informal wear. She was knighted for her services to literature, and I thought it would be rude to be in her presence in my usual gear of jeans and tee. But, I was not disappointed in not meeting her in person, and the live conference was just as good and exhilarating as actually having her present in person.

It was fun! She's someone I'd love to meet in person and go down the pub with. I want to grow old with attitude like that too.
