A Poem for Aliens

"If the Martians can translate this and interpret it, it will give them an interesting view of human nature!"
astronomer/ presenter Sir Patrick Moore said about Adrian Mitchell's poem Human Beings.

The Poetry Society asked Guardian readers to vote for the poem they would most like to see sent into outer space for the edification of any possible little green men there might be out there. Mitchell's poem can be read here.

Of course, the aliens would just look at the strange symbols we call letters and think it's an ancient fertility rite or something. And in this they might not be entirely wrong.
