Thanks, Walker, for sending me news of this great writing competition for plagiarists.
The rules are fun:
Your final piece is limited to 750 of other peoples’ words; none of those words may be your own.
All material must be cited (author, work, page number). This is the only part where you have to be honest; unlike professional publishers, we’re actually going to check.
You must plagiarize from a minimum of five different books by as many authors as you wish. The only demand we make is that those books were published at some point, somewhere.
You must lift only phrases, whole sentences, or passages. No single wordcitations allowed.

It's a very funny, enjoyable read[1]; a nicely written piece[2]. One wonders too why there isn't really an equivalent[3] from the mainstream press[4].

You *told* him?! LOL. That's original. (Kaavya presumably didn't have the time to get in touch with everybody beforehand. ;))
I'm inclined to take the same approach to multi-sourced plagiarism as I would the creation of composite characters. I would mix contrasting ideas. Crossing Barbara Cartland with Jackie Collins seems like a good idea. (Actually that sounds fun.) Bouncing Kunzru's cyberworld off a contrasting (pre-reformation?) society could be challenging though. I'm not sure his and Chaucer's words would mix...but er...actually, it could be fun trying that too. ;-)
yes, i think it's only decent to tell a writer that you intend to plagiarise them and since hari was close at hand *LOL* ...
kunzru+chaucer? now there's a thought ... i see it now - a new chapter about cyberpilgrims on their way to pay homage to ... Bill Gates? (not good enough, can you think of something better?) and putting up in a themed motel called the Tabard Lodge ...

Marc Andreesen (sp ?) would be the best person to have people pay homage to. He's young and kinda innocent-looking. But he's got that world-weary look only young gods have.
