Malaysian Anecdotes

Some time back there was a call for contributions for a collection of Malaysian anecdotes. My friend Saraswati Manickam has now taken over as editor for the anthology and is still looking for amusing contributions. Here's the blub:
Perdana Leadership Foundations (PLF) plans to publish a book of Malaysian anecdotes in conjunction with the country's 50th year of independence. We would like to record the lighter side of Malaysia's cultural heritage. If you have any witty, amusing, authentic stories, we'd love to hear from you. We all carry stories inside us - stories that spring from our experiences or stories that we've heard from someone else. Well, if any of those stories are so funny that they make you laugh again and again, do share with us. All contributions will be acknowledged; however copyright belongs to PLF, a non-profit organisation. Please mail your stories to wordtraveller@hotmail.com. They'll be very much appreciated.

Ooh, I saw the original ad in the Aug-Oct MPH Quill but couldn't send in my entry in time for the 31st Oct deadline. Can it be that the deadline's been extended? Is it possible?

Uhm...what IS the new deadline?

i don't think there is a deadline as such although saras hopes to get it finished soonish.

i think you should just contact her and say that you are interested.

i guess that there weren't enough contributions and/or they weren't up to the mark the first time round. saras mentioned to me that many of the pieces just weren't amusing.

Sharon, the deadline keeps getting pushed back. Perhaps I should contribute a story. I'm not surprised that Saras mentioned many pieces aren't amusing. It's not that easy to write humour.

BTW, there's a contest up on my blog, again. Could you pop by and see if you could help please?

Thank you, Sharon, for putting up the blurb in the blog. Much appreciated. There isn't a deadline as such but the book must be completed within the next two months so that it can come out in August, in time for the 50th anniversay of our independence. Am keeping all fingers crossed that there is terrific response.

Saras,
As I said in my e-mail, I'll think of something. I'm not confident of the response you'll get though. The mood among Malaysians as the nation turns 50 is just not good.

Animah: Aww...my inner optimist wants to say no, that's not true, everyone's happy-happy that we're half a century old, but my inner cynic's bound and gagged my inner optimist, so all I can say is, I wish that weren't so.

Sharon & Saras: thanks for the clarification. I already have a rough draft, and I'll send it in ASAP right after I clean it up a bit.
