Books Snapped and Naps Napped

I was a victim of the Times Warehouse sale. On Sundays parking is easy.

Even though half the space was taken by the Guardian Pharmacy sale, there was still tons of choice, but you have to hunt hard to find the real treasures.

I'm thrilled to bits with my haul.

Silliest book I bought was a book about the virtues of taking naps! (Permisssion to Nap by Jill Murphy Long ... as if I need encouragement!) Am excited about the really great fiction I found, including titles by Canadian, Australian, African authors. (Click the pic to see the titles - I'm too lazy to type them). Camilla Gibb had tipped me off about MG Vassanji (who won the Giller prize in 2003) when I interviewed her.

Where are we going to start, Nisbo?

Dunno mate. Let's take a nap and sleep on it.

She beat me to it.

This is the little one who got poisoned by some nasty stuff from the next door garden, right? And wriggled out of my grasp because I dunno how to hold cats (or any kind of living being).

Love her eyes.

Ahem. I am going to break character for a bit and say something that in no way should be misconstrued as an admission of being anything less than the most macho and handsome medic on the planet, okay?

AWWWWWWWWWWWW what a cutesy-wooty lil kitty-widdy! AWWWWWW I love cats! such an adorable ickle kiddy-widdy

Ahem. I'll, uh, be going now.

OMG Sharon, your kitty pics make me miss my cats.....and let me be the first to congratulate you on your book haul, what a booty!Noticed any health books?

I loved the Crimson Petal and the White. It's fat, but reads far too quickly.

Sharon: I just noticed there's almost no non-fiction on your list! Did you manage to restrain yourself during the sale, or does non-fiction just not whet your appetite?

Chet: I am NOT sensitive! *pushes stuffed kitten on bed out of view* I am big and macho. Cough.

Oh,what a wonderful pile of books.

I'm getting closer to 'The Crimson Petal and the White' in my TBR pile and I hope I enjoy it as much as Jen did.

angry medic - of course you're big and macho. but nisbo has a way of melting hearts - much more so in real life. you'd be putty in her paws.

i looked for non-fiction and there were a couple of good popular science books but didn't buy them (will kick myself later, no doubt), but there wasn't much else non-fiction that interested me. i wish they'd have big glossy art books at knock-down prices ...

chet - yes, she was the one who was sick, but it turned out to be a bad mouth infection and we found out she has FIV (feline AIDS). but she's doing fine now.

ms d - this is the cat i wanted to give you, all those years ago! see what you missed?

jen - yes was thrilled to find "the crimson petal and the white" in a lovely hardback edition for just RM20

ron - goodness knows how long it's doomed to stay in my TBR pile!!

Nisbo? Is it an anagram of bison? But your cat does not look like bison. Or is it a deep classical character from some obscure fiction?

Bo-sin (Hokkien for 'not new'? Well, the meow has been around for a while, yes?)

Anyways, loved your Nisbo pictures, Bib, even though I'm partial to woofers. Also, coveted your pile of books. (I recently in a moment of tome madness ordered a book called 'Poems by Dogs of Authors' or some such - heard of it? Any good?)

secret history - she is named for rugby commentator grant nisbet (?), nicknamed nisbo - not i named her but the old man. but nisbo suits her and it's often reduced is nissie. (and please don't mention bison to her, she'd be most insulted)

didn't know dogs wrote poetry argus lou. intrigued. (cats can't be bothered.)

Bib - just found out from comment left by Dina's friend on her blog that Big Bookstore at Atria is having a sale again, this time to 15 May! I got two days off, maybe I drag myself to go see what I can pick up. Wanna go?
