World Book Day is coming up on 23rd April and to celebrate it, StarMag is holding its own poll for Malaysian readers. They would love to have a list of your 10 all-time favourite books, and will feature the results in their April 29th monthly pull-out. You will remember that a similar poll was held to celebrate British World Book Day recently.
Please do drop them a line at starmag-bookpoll@thestar.com.my ... and let them know just how strongly we feel about our books!

Hi Sharon, Thanks for the plug for our poll. Readers will also be able to vote for their favourite books online. Not sure when exactly the page will be up but will keep you posted.
great, daphne - this is a fun idea!
Hmm, now gotta rethink my own list again... which books get to stay, which get pushed off? Decisions, decisions...
it's so hard isn't it, kenny
i was pondering this this morning and have nine books ... but which is going to be my tenth???
I love lists. I love lists. It's so .... High Fidelity.
Now, name five books with a colour in the title.
yellow dog - martin amis
my name is red - pamuk
the black dogs - mcewan
the white castle - pamuk
greybeard - brian aldiss
easy peasy
Could make it tougher - name 5 books by Turkish authors with colours in the title.
Sufian??
okay plus pamuk's 'white castle'
need only two more!
I'm cheating but Yashar Kemal has a book called Iron Earth, Copper Sky. That's colour, right?
Vus'at O. Bener, Black and White.
That's five?
[I've only read Yashar Kemal's Memed, My Hawk and the other guy, I've only read a page or so of his work)
But if anyone is interested in Contemporary Turkish Lit I recommend Elif Shafak's The Gaze (according to the blurb on my copy - She is set to challenge Mr Pamuk as Turkey's foremost contemporary Novelist)
And of course Ms Shafak has also been charged with some random Bookhaterz law by some lit-haterz in Turkey, so she's well on her way to becoming another Orhan.
Of course you can cheat by going to the link below, but will you be able to look at yourself in the mirror after that? Will YOU?:

This is one author with 7 books which have Colours in the title. Walter Mosely.
Devil in a blue dress
A red death
White butterfly
Black Betty
A little Yellow dog
Bad boy brawly Brown
Little Scarlet
Beat that, someone.
Yes I am an expat, living, I hope, permanently in Malaysia - married with house and kids here.......
So here goes, my top ten favourite books of all time, well for today it is, and in no particular order.............
Paulo Coelho - The Alchemist
Herman Hesse - Steppenwolf
Jean Cocteau - Thomas the Imposter
R.K.Narayan - The Painter of Signs
J.R.R.Tolkien - The Lord of the Rings
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi - An Autobiography: The Story of My Experiments With Truth
Idris Shah - The Exploits of the Incomparable Mulla Nasrudin
Robert M. Pirsig - Zen and the Art of Motorcycle maintenance
Jack Kerouac - On the Road
The Qu'ran
But to be honest I find it very difficult to chose just ten, and each time I chose it would be different. But for now, today, this is the ten.
Sorry but I didn't read the colour bit until after - not sure that any apart from
Andre Gide's White Notebook
would appear on my list, or maybe
Michael Moorcock's Black Corridor
or perhaps
Jack London's White Fang
