20,800 and Counting!

How many books do you reckon you'll get through in a lifetime?

British pensioner Edna Foulds has borrowed an amazing 20,800 books over the past 40 years from her local library, according to the Northern Echo (and stumbled upon via Reading Copy). What's more, she's only had to pay a fine for an overdue book on one occasion!

Her lifetime reading total is of course much higher because she was already an avid reader before joining Redcar library.

Kudos to her local library too - for her to be able to find that something interesting to read in one place is amazing....

that's amazing! ^_^
we should have a category like this (most number of books read in x years/lifetime) in our Malaysian Book of Records, instead of all the meaningless categories.

scott ... yes i guessed she didn't read all, as there are bound to be the ones which don't appeal ... but it is still an inspiring total. greet her from us here in malaysia and tell her she's a role model!

rojakgirl - yes it does show the value of a very well-stocked library. could anyone read like that here on a diet of just library books??

I've read 15 books so far, but i'm proud to say that i've read 100% of the books i've borrowed and i've been fined on 15 occurences. At least i've contributed to the wealth of our DBKL library! : ) read on, oh brothers in arms

My little niece who's six has read 83 books this year..and has a little book where she keeps a record of what she read and her ratings (a school system). But I think that's just awesome.
I remember doing this when I was a child as well.
How many books have I read in my life - I don't know. How many books I own may be managable and then power that by 10 to accomodate for the number of books I borrow.
So that comes up to one million trillion gazillion.
I think I am up too early for a Sunday.
Ta.

Very impressive Sham.. soon we'll have three-year-old readers, maybe they'll be writers at four. Take that you child prodigy-exhibiting parents :)
