Amazing on Amazon

Sandwiched between Costa winner Stef Penney and Harry Potter, Tan Twan Eng's The Gift of Rain at its highest point (56) so far on the amazon.co.uk best-seller list and is still climbing. Are we cheering or what?

(Sorry my attempts to capture the screenshot didn't work.)

I went to the link to get a screenshot but Twan Eng has dropped to #70 and no longer between Penney and Potter.

Woohoooo! You're the man!
You can tell people you were once higher than Potter. Now how many can boast that (other than Kam).

3 and more cheers! Now let's have the bloody paperback already!! I still can't bring myself to fork out almost RM80 for a softcover trade paperback when I got both the latest Crichton and Harris hardbacks for under RM70 each.

Read the glowing reviews on Amazon. Can't wait for the paperback to be out. Mmm... wonder if the book will be turned into a movie. Congrats to Tan.

If the Amazon Top 100 is anything like the Billboard 100, then it's very good!

Well, if Tan's book is in the Top 100, think of how many MILLIONS of book titles Amazon UK carries...

Thanks, Readers of Sharon's blog!
:-) Thanks, Chet!

I've conveyed the calls for a paperback to my publisher, but they have to follow their publication schedule.

Tan's still within the 100 today..what, the 3rd or 4th day now?

he first told me a week or two ago so its hanging in there. maybe it was the review in the times lit supplement. maybe it's word of mouth?

there are some books which take off not because publishers and bookstores promote them but because readers enjoy them and recommend them or buy them for other readers. "captain corelli's mandolin" was one such.

The review in TLS helped, definitely, but it came out on 22 June...

oh yes ... and nothing yet in the other UK papers ...

so how come it's doing so well? must be the word of mouth thing ... curious!

We have no idea why! We suspect it's word of mouth...but if any of you have read the book and liked it, please do put a short review on Amazon UK if you feel like it. There hasn't been a review from Malaysia yet.
