Tamil Short Stories Launched

This came to me via Animah :
Dear Friends,

There will be a book launch cum Bharatanatyam performance on Sunday 15 June, 2008 at Soma auditorium, Wisma Tun Sambanthan from 3.30 - 6.00 pm (afternoon).

The book, a compilation of short stories by Nirmala Raghavan, will be launched to raise funds for Mahavidya Dance Theatre ("MDT").

MDT aims to promote performing arts to all children, irrespective of their background. There is a wealth of talent in Malaysia but limited opportunity, particularly for those from poor socio-economic backgrounds. MDT is trying to bridge this gap through its programmes, and also to raise the standard of classical arts in this country.

MDT has staged several performances in Malaysia to raise funds for its programmes. These performances have been carried out with the support of the Indian Cultural Council, High Commission of India, and the National Arts, Culture & Heritage Academy of Malaysia (ASWARA).

Entire proceeds from these concerts are used to support the teaching of classical arts to children from abused/underprivileged homes, in association with CHILD INFORMATION, LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE ("CHILD"), an organisation set up to promote the well-being of children. Some 50 children have benefitted under this programme. MDT currently conducts its classes in three places, two in KL and one in Ipoh. To know more more about CHILD, please visit the website.

In this connection, we seek your kind monetary donations to support this cultural event (by cash or cheque). Your contributions are tax-exempt. Cheques may be issued in favour of "Child Information, Learning and Development Centre".
In the event you are unable to attend the launch, kindly mail your cheque to :
Child Information, Learning and Development Centre,
c/o Sheela Raghavan, 57, Jalan BRP 5/5, Bukit Rahman Putra, 47000, Sg. Buloh, Selangor.

Thanks for your continued support,
Sheela

Sharon -- is there any information available about the short story collection itself? Even the CHILD blog isn't working for me (anyone else having this problem?) but it doesn't sound like that website will have much information about the short stories, anyway....

Hi Animah,

Thanks so much for offering -- actually if you could perhaps grab me a copy and just give it to Sharon, that would be great. Sharon, please don't post it -- unnecessary expense -- I'll just get it from you when I come to Malaysia. I can even pay for the copy -- I wanted to buy it, in fact, but I can't find anything about it on the Internet.

Thanks again!

Will do Preeta. And I'll ask Sheela to fix the website.

Interesting how polarized even the charity attempts are, isn't it ? Sheela Raghavan is announcing a compilation of short stories by Nirmala Raghavan at Wisma Tun Sambanthan to raise funds for Mahavidya Dance Theatre. The dance, of course, will be the Bharatanatyam.
