Tales from the Court Launched

From Raman :
The launch of Matthew Thomas' Tales from the Court and other stories will be held at Silverfish Books on Saturday, 6th September 2008 at 5.00 pm. Attending the function and launching the book (all the way from France) will be his very good friend Mohamed M Keshavjee who also wrote the afterword in the book.

"In this compendium of short stories, the author, who is a keen student of human foibles, gives us a series of vignettes from the Kuala Lumpur of the 1950s. His characters come vividly to life: from Eddodes, the creative and legendary builder of castles in the air and Boniface 'Birdie Boy' Ratnayake, the aspirant judge, to Musso the exorcist, and Mike Kumar, the confidence trickster. In this book, all these characters talk to us. The author captures the very essence of their being and their cultures as they play their little games in life, made up of illusions, craftiness, ego, hope and aspirations."

This is an open invitation, all are welcome.

....of course I won't be attending....the venomous 'smile' you bestowed upon me at Bangsar Village Two is something I will always cherish! I have just started teaching at Sayfol International School...not bad for an old gin-sodden deadbeat like me to have been offered the job in the first place!..like the Rolling Stones I just keep on rollin'....

Sorry, BV, not the monstrous BV2...

Ah, so the venomous 'smile' isn't so bad now, since it was beamed at the less monstrous BV...

I went along with Saras for the reading, and was a little disappointed to find that the author (being shy) did no actual reading.

The book was not discussed, nor was there any question-answer slot, which usually reveals so much about the context of the book, and adds to its enjoyment.

Um...Chet, the writer's friend gave a speech to launch the book, the writer thanked everybody for contributing to the book and being there for the launch, the writer's great-grandson sang a song, and then we were asked to get to the snacks table.

All the readings I have been to at Silverfish have been quite interesting, guess this was the exception to the rule.

But Matthew Thomas isn't old enough to be a great-grandfather!

Can't argue with free food though.
