May Zhee in Metro

I did it with determination, perseverance... and eyebags. I endured so many sleepless nights where I was either doing something or worrying about doing something. My passion for writing motivates me, because when you’re down in the dumps, the only thing that will pull you through is your love for something.
Teenage author Lim May Zhee who had two self-published novels under her belt by the age of 17 was featured in Star Metro yesterday.

I greatly admire May Zhee's courage and determination, and to hear of the unkindness she's had to encounter from the naysayers makes me feel very sad for her.

Keep working at your craft, girl. Keep being enthusiastic about writing. But do - above all - read as widely and as hungrily as you can.

Youth has a certain novelty value attached to it, but being taken seriously as an author gets much harder as you get older.

So do I. And the comments of 'naysayers' can be really hurtful....I still remember being on the receiving end of them when I was touting myself as a soon-to-be famous author! Perhaps I should have kept my mouth shut and kept the 'clacking' strictly to my typewriter!

Honestly, Sharon, I admire what she went through to get herself published too. But I do think that a lot of the "unkindness" she gets has nothing to do with her books, although people do make insulting comments about the books in the process. :)

She is, however, a promising writer and I do hope she'll continue writing if it's really her passion.

Congratulations to May Zhee. It's tough finishing a book, let alone two of them and it's tough again taking on the role of publisher. Well done!

I like her already :) first writer's blog that I've ever read that's really written personally. There you go people, that's what a real writer's blog would probably look like if the PR flacks didn't have a hand in it.

Well actually, I wish I'm more like her now!

Elmira -

You just need to have money :) attend a private school, pay for the publication of your book, do a lot of marketing, and you're there :)
