Hi, I've been following your excellent blog and that lately of Tash Aw's Map of the Invisible World on Indonesia ( I am Indonesian) and wonder if there were Indonesians at all present at Tash Aw's events in Europe, NZ, Australia and now KL, and if so, may I know of their reaction please? Thanks

awness (!) - there were none that i know of in London, although Karim certainly lives in Indonesia (bali) much of the time. the events in KL haven't taken place yet.

i'm also interested in how the book is received in Indonesia. i know tash will be at the Ubud writers festival later in the year ...

thanks - and i did wonder why? i also think that living in some quarters of bali/ubud may not be constituted as living in Indonesia...? ;^)

i take your point, awness. but i do love ubud. i'll see if Tash has any other indonesian dates planned.

thank u bibliobibuli(!) I've just finished reading MOTIW (Map of the Invisible World) and despite what some readers have said at some reviews on wobbliness, i thought that the author has pointedly captured exactly the correct truth of Indonesian's Invisibleness (of the country's and more importantly of the people's)

" 'What then must we do?'... She is a nullity-a vacuum. But with what dignity she holds herself together around that vacuum,... "
[Billy Kwan, The Year of Living Dangerously]

ps: and the playful spirits haunted me down at ubud the other day.. where do you stay when in ubud? i really can do without those cheeky spirits...
