It's official - the 2006 Kuala Lumpur Literary festival is on! Raman announced it in the latest edition of his litmag and was apparently waiting for the green light from the Deputy Prime Minister's wife.
Trouble is though, that to be truly international you need the cooperation of the foreign missions and corporate sponsors who will need to find funds, when their budgets will have presumably already been allocated for the year. I'm sure Raman would like the participation of really top writers from across the globe again, but most are booked out for events months if not years ahead. Seven months lead-time isn't very long!
Anyway, I wish Raman all the best for it because it is a noble effort. I'm sure he will learn have learned from the lessons of last time. (" ... a little chaotic" is what he called it. Yes, indeed. )
The other great news from Silverfish is that three of the stories in the New Writing series are to be dramatised a Singaporean TV production company. Congrats to Raman and to the writers involved.

hahaha....oh no..
but that looks interesting! KL Lit fest!
lol @ sufian.
i wonder if books would go on a price slash during the festival.
aiyoh look at me - that should read Deputy!!! i'll change it ...
chloe - you've got warehouse sales what more do you want??
hmmm. Never liked the silverfish books. I, and other bloggers here, write better in their sleep.
And the editing is just GHASTLY
yes, some of the most exciting writing i've seen from malaysians has been on blogs but i haven't seen it translate into a solid piece of publishable work yet ... i'm waiting ...
some of the pieces read out in the saturday afternoon readings give me tremendous hope ...
meanwhile the standard of stories in the collections are very variable and a lot depends on the editors ... there are for sure some names to watch ... and i'm watching
if i ever see the manuscript that grabs my heart by the strings and hurls it into outer space i will put up the money to publish it myself
but i'm STILL waiting to find it
meanwhile your words smack of impotent envy - you may write well (and yes i've looked at your blog and you do) - but put your words out for publication and i'll respect what you say more. okay?
And you know what, bowel ? it sold. Thousands IINM. There's no justice in this world :P
..and Bowel needs an editor, there are several very obvious grammar mistakes in the blog.
including in the spelling of your handle ... unless i've missed a point?
"The manuscript that grabs your heart by the strings and hurls it into outer space" will sell one copy ? :)
