Noise is Hari Kunzru's quirky collection of short stories, published in the penguin 70's series and a real steal at RM9.99. (You should find it quite easily in the bookshops.)Written earlier than his novels, the stories are still humourous ... yet surprisingly dark as they the interface between humanity and machine in an increasingly wired world.

In Bodywork, the narrator takes on a DIY project - component by component rebuilding himself as a machine while his wife rots away in the bedroom.
Deus Ex-Machina - a gentler tale about a Guardian Angel (for want of a better term to define himself!) who tinkers with computers to save the life of the girl when she makes a suicide attempt.

I've read Noise and really enjoyed it. Can't wait to get home and buy The Impressionist. Have asked my mom to keep that article on him from The Star so that I can get the 20% off. Pity I won't be in Msia to meet him... sigh..
