Too Many Amirs and Two Minutes of Fame

Arrrrggghhh! I'm famous! Yesterday my blog was featured very prominently in a feature about what bloggers are saying re. the banning of Amir Muhammad's film The Last Communist which appeared in the Malay Mail.

There was me shooting off my big mouth about the silliness of the whole thing - in print! (*Swallow hard*). But, Amir (Mr. Malay Male), I'm flattered that you thought my words important enough.

Was much amused to read in the Sunday Times that because Amir (the filmaker) feels that since the title of the movie provoked emotional reactions, he might rename it Senario Cinta Mawi:
Roughly, it means Senario (the popular Malay comic group) in love with Mawi (the even more popular singer).
Who could object to that?

But anyway at least Amir's work is finding an appreciative audience overseas.

Meanwhile, the new look (all singing and tap dancing) Malay Mail has a cleaner, more hip image, and I am enjoying some of the new features. It was great to see Amir Hafizi writing a column in his bad-boy voice on Sunday. Must confess though, I'm going to miss the sleaziness of the former version ... and I found it a great source of ideas for fiction with all the human drama and corpses and loan sharks and snatch thieves littering the pages. Don't sanitise too much lah! We need our scandals ...

A huge fuss made over Chin Peng and the deaths he caused during the Emergency but now Emperor Akihito is going to visit Perak and NO ONE says a word about Japanese War Crimes culpability - as the representative of an unrepentant and unapologetic nation which caused so many deaths to loyal Malayans and Brits in the Second World War, why isn't HE banned from entering the country? Remember the Sook Ching campaigns, anyone? Remember the rapes, the tortures, the live disembowelling -all this didn't just happen in Nanking but in peaceful towns all across Malaya and South East Asia.

Sharon,
I might be wrong but wouldn't 'SENARIO CINTA MAWI' would also mean Mawi's love life scenario?
