All the Literary History You Need to Know

Today's the birthday of ...
  • Dylan Thomas born, in Swansea, Wales (1914)
  • Sylvia Plath, born in Boston, Massachusetts (1932)
  • Maxine Hong Kingston, born Maxine Hong in Stockton, California (1940) and
  • Zadie Smith, born in London (1975)
I'm in good company, huh?

Facts from The Writer's Almanac, which sends you amazing nuggets of writerly information and a daily poem. You can hear the daily radio programme online, presented by author Garrison Keillor. Great fun.

was going to keep the birthday quiet till someone revealed it!

nizam - thanks for your comments re the look. hadn't thought of putting a permalink .... a permalink means you can easily grab the URL even when post is archived, right? and i guess i have to tweak my settings to put it there

"I'm in good company, huh?"

Not that kind of company with Sylvia Plath, I hope.

*cough*

I'd offer to come round with some gummy bear cupcakes and my copy of The Writer's Notebook, but I've been ill with the stomach flu, so your little pressies will have to wait.

By the way, you already have a permalink. It's just that it's not labelled as one. The permanent links are the timestamps at the end of your posts.

You have to edit your template to do this; just simple changes.

I changed my template to embed the permanent link on the post titles, and also in a separately labeled link at the bottom.

You also share your birfday wif John Cleese, Jayne Kennedy, Cleo Laine, Emily Post, and Theodore Roosevelt, among others.

I didn't know, but I hope what you received in the mail may qualify for a birthday present.

Oops, sorry if it was me letting the bib out of the book bag. :) But I was informed of it at Midnite Lily's first!
