Yesterday I was telling you about Deepika Shetty's report on the Ubud Writers and Readers festival aired yesterday on Channel News Asia. I was feeling a bit sad I couldn't see it.
Today I discovered - hurray - it's online! Click this link and then then click the Deepika's photo to get a taste of the whole event ... and yes, I'm in there somewhere too!

"People who like books also like drinking ... "
Yes, and people who write, too.
*nursing a long, cool 100Plus as I write this*
Thanks Sharon for the link. I tried the video but it needs for a flash plug in.
Cheers
Zafar
chet - hate to break it to you, but drinking isn't about 100 plus
safar - so get the plug in. i'm worth it!
Enjoyed the video, Sharon and it was sure great to see you on there! :) These writing festivals look like so much fun - is it for writers only, or for a fee, is it open to readers as well?
lotus - of course readers attend - in fact most of the audience i think were readers. many had made the trip from australia.
i'm sure you have lots of similar events in canada
So when's the next KL LitFest, Sharon? How about a MyLitFest?
Yes, Sharon, you are right, we have many such festivals, infact, I will be attending one (as a reader ofcourse) later this month - it's called "The International Festival of Authors". For some reason I was mixing up the Ubud Festival with our Book Expo which is only by invitation (for writers and others in the publishing industry)!
chet - raman said march last time i asked him but i think he's still struggling to get sponsorship. the high comms and embassies seem happy to bring in writers. but six months lead time to a litfest is simply not enough, and the momentum from the first festival has been lost, sadly.
lotus - be sure to tell us all about the festival!!
Next year would be a good time to hold a MyLitFest, as it's Malaysia's 50th Merdeka anniversary. I was going to suggest anytime between July and September, but those three months would be full of Merdeka related activities, so maybe a tad later, to round off the Merdeka year?
I'd like to get involved, if help is required.
i'm sure raman would be glad of any offers of help when the time comes. i will pass your anme to him when i hear anything.
Of course, Sharon, you are worth it and more):
Just saw the entire interview. I was naturally fascinated. Hope I get to see more of you in the coming episodes.
Cheers!
