Just for the Record ...

The Idiot Behind the Iron Mask has an extremely amusing and well-written post about the Malaysian obsession with breaking meaningless records ... and the book which joyfully celebrates such folly.*

The backstory is of course the mini-revolution waged by students of the Malaysian Multimedia University who rightly felt that a bid to make it into the record book for creating the world's longest kebab (now, what was that about this being a self-satirising country ...?) wasn't exactly the best use of their university education.

And a note to xaph (a fellow more cynical than I) - I did actually suggest some time back that the Pahang State Library be included in the book ... in the stolen library books category.

*(And here, once again, is a book with a grammatically incorrect title! It should of course be The Malaysian Book of Records!)

Who was it who said that you are supposed to gain wisdom as you age? That's crap. Experience and wisdom are overrated virtues.

Largest gathering of cats in one place. That's the latest record dealie in Kuching over the weekend.

Large gathering of cats are easy to find. Just go to an animal shelter. Why so susah?

My eyes are losing it... Half a minute there I thought I read "the world's longest hijab" --- and the first thing that came to mind, was who would wear it?

Kudos to the MMU kids!

Unrelated (sorry), but have you watched the trailer of the film adaptation of Ian McEwan's Atonement starring Keira Knightley? Looks good (trailer, but Knightley too). Hoho.
