Wrestling Kam Raslan

Kam's posted the following message on his website and I'd like to help him spread it a bit further:
I'm working on a new book, which will be non-fiction. Without wanting to give too much away, it's about aspects of Malaysian history but not the usual stuff. I'm writing about the flip-side of history. But I need your help.

One story I'm doing is about wrestling. There was once a lively wrestling scene in the country but I'm having difficulty in finding information about it. Do you know where I can begin? Do you have any contacts, do you know anybody who was once a wrestler?

Sounds crazy but that's your mission, if you choose to accept it. Please email me if you have any ideas.

Thanks.
Kam
If you can help him, do let him know. Or if you know anyone else who might know give them a nudge, ya?

Whoa, I never knew we had a wrestling scene. I thought he was referring to the WWE or something like that, in which I can actually lend him my autobiographies of The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Mick Foley... well, and a few others. (cough) Don't ask why I used to collect them.

There used to be an ex-wrestler turned pork-chop seller in SS2. I think his name was Leong Fu...Star did an interview with him. Check their archives...

Datuk Lat knows quite a bit about the wrestling scene, I know he did some cartoons on it for Kampung Boy. Those were funny - people with titles like Battling Arumugam :)

I am thinking of Lat's illustrations too, but those are about boxing, not wrestling. So either Kam is interested in boxing (which I think was quite a huge thing in those years) or wrestling which I've never really known of being big in our country, unless we're talking about sitting at home or at the mamak watching the WWE on TV.

Thanks for the leads, and thank you Sharon for highlighting my quest. I find wrestling fascinating because I find it so mystifying. I appreciate all the help I can get.

There used to be an interesting boxing and wrestling scene in Penang at the amusement parks. The boxers and wrestlers went by nicknames like King Kong (Russian wrestler), Kid Pancho, Kid Nara and Tarzan the snake wrestler. You can read a little bit about them here at...

Mat Tarzan, whose real name is Ahmad Ali, was last featured in The Star in 2004 and at that time, he was selling mee jawa. His hp no. was also published (016-4727440) but I don't know whether it still works. Kid Nara, the boxer is said to be living in Parit Buntar.
