Virtual Tour of Charing Cross Road

One of my favourite haunts when I go back to London is Charing Cross Road with specialist bookshops the length of the street, the biggest and most famous of course being Foyles. Now crime, romance, sci-fi bookshop, Murder One, the only one of its kind in the UK, is to close its doors and the street may never be the same again.

Mark McCormick in The Guardian puts together an interactive guide to the area complete with map so you can take a virtual tour with photos and video.

I'm homesick!

I know the place. How sad. ALso reminds me of that book (and play) 84 Charing Cross Rod. Homesick? Can an Australian feel homesick for London? In this case, yes

Yes I know the bookshop well, right near Chinatown and opposite some excellent art book shops.

It will be sadly missed.

I went to the linked site and clicked randomly on a yellow square and it turned out to be 84, Charing Cross Road! I remember going there to look for the shop after watching the movie, but it was not the same bookstore by then (1986 or '87).

Along the same row is (was?) the wonderful Silver Moon bookstore.

'one of it's kind' should read 'one of its kind'.

Oh. I was lucky then. I managed to check out Murder One when I was in London. My grandpa and I are big detective-crime fans.
