Inspector Singh in Tescos

I'm putting up some of the more literary pictures from my U.K. trip. Shamini Flint asked me to keep an eye out for her novel in Tescos and elsewhere. Here it is on special offer in the harrow branch of Tescos, and at number 7 in their hit parade. (I think the garland of dishwashing brushes is a nice touch - shows just how accessible books are to shoppers.)

Sadly the copy I bought had pages wrongly numbered. Page 42 faced page 213. So I wasn't very far in and had to return it. But I couldn't get a replacement copy because they had sold out. Good sign.

I also saw it in the local Waterstones where the copies were all just fine. Other friends have reported sightings across the UK.

Why are the copies in Tesco different from the ones in Waterstones? Are the Tesco copies rejects? Were they priced cheaper, too?

What A Lulu said...

dud stamps and dollar notes are worth a premium.
does it work the same for dud books?

Lulu - I hope, cuz I have a dud copy of Dina Zaman's I am Muslim - full of typos and wrong pagination, and signed by the author, too!

eeek - I'll swap from one of mine, Sharon when next I see you! It's interesting that publishers, big and small, can still end up with something like that ...

I need to have a KL launch, any ideas where and when guys?

Yes, yes, KL launch, please.

Oh yes, even the big publishing houses are run by human beings, after all! I wouldn't worry about it -- it was probably just one dud copy and a fluke that it found its way into the hands of someone you know.

Amir Muhammad once mentioned a woman called Rahel Joseph who organises launches (I think she has access to one of the spaces in the twin towers, maybe, if I remember correctly) -- you might try contacting Amir to ask him about it?

Unfortunately Rahel has quit the Petronas Gallery!

But I am sure we can all help plan something ...

Can't wait to get the UK edition!

I think it should be a "whodunit" launch, in line with the book's genre. With lots of clues.

didn't know rahel had moved to petronas let alone that she had quit. last i knew she was with the aussie high comm

can we help Shamini? i'm sure we could do something at no black tie or seksan's. we need a nice party!!!

no need to replace the book 'cos i got a refund and will pick up a copy as soon as i see it here. couldn't believe my rotten luck though as i had got all the way to p42 before i noticed

Sharon, I bought it at Borders Oxford Street after you mentioned in and took Insp. Singh with me all the way to Europe and back.
will review it soon - well a sort of blog review.

curiously, I knew Rahel when she worked at Zain&co. Is KL really that small? Seksan and NBT both sound great ... I will be around end of July/early August ... a good time to PARTY??
