Singapore Swordfish

Kee Thuan Chye's play critically acclaimed new play The Swordfish, Then the Concubine :
A bitingly comic satire that blends ancient myth with contemporary politics. A highly theatrical production of an exciting epic.
is being staged in Singapore from Wednesday, August 6 to Sunday, August 10, 2008 at The Drama Centre, 100 Victoria Street, National Library Building Level 3.

The play is directed by Ivan Heng and accompanied by live orchestration by Gamelan Asmaradana.

Here are links to my previous posts about the play and the Facebook page for the event is here.

Who will be the Hang Nadeem? This is legends which consider to be inside the Sulalatus Salatin?

Yes, 2 episodes from Sejarah Melayu.

Hang Nadim will be played by a boy.

Do come and see it. The play is full of humour, physical theatre and high drama. It's a very theatrical piece, especially written to be so. And it's very much about us today. It's very contemporary in its thematic concerns. And the political satire is clear.

What's more, it's directed by Ivan Heng, Singapore's leading stage director.

I attended the first week of rehearsal and it was fabulous. We have a cast of 15 playing thousands of characters!

COngratulations, Mr.Kee

Sharon, why don't you invite Thuan Chye to be a reader at one of Seksen's session? That would be a lovely idea. The first and only time i ever heard Thuan Chye speak in person was at some conference years ago on censorshiip.
